All politics is local: NYC edition

Republican nominee for U.S. House of Representatives Bob Turner received the endorsement of the Jewish Voice, a local paper with distribution around the New York area, in the NY-9 special election taking place September 13th. Turner faces Democratic opponent Rep. David Weprin, a local Assemblyman.

The Jewish Voice editorial, released online in advance of its Friday publication, criticized Weprin’s support for the New York gay marriage legislation, for his relative dovishness on Israel compared to Turner, and supported Turner’s economic positions.

Here’s an excerpt from the endorsement:

For New Yorkers in the 9th Congressional District, and for those who have grown restive over the intrusion of the “nanny state” in the affairs of their daily lives, the decision on September 13 couldn’t be clearer. Political change is desperately needed and we, the people, are charged with chartering our own course, of becoming masters of our own fate, and captains of our own ship. Let’s send a bold message to President Obama by electing Bob Turner to Congress and saying “no” to more of the same.

On the same day that New Yorkers choose between Turner and Weprin, Nevadans can vote in the NV-02 special election campaign that pits former Nevada Republican chairman Mark Amodei against State Treasurer Kate Marshall, D-Nev. Early voting indicates that Amodei has an edge in the race to higher Republican turnout.
