San Francisco officials are proceeding with a plan that would mandate radiation warning labels on cell phones:
Mayor Gavin Newsom is endorsing a proposal that would make San Francisco the first city in the country to require radiation labels for cell phones.
The legislation would require cell phone retailers to post radiation levels next to each phone in a font at least as large as the price.
The retailers also would have to inform customers about what the radiation levels mean.
So far, there’s no convincing scientific evidence as to whether low-level cell phone radiation is at all harmful. Further, the federal government has already established limits on what constitutes safe exposure and the FCC tests and approves each cell phone before it can be put on the market.
