Scott won’t run against Kaine for U.S. Senate

Rep. Bobby Scott, D-Va., won’t run against former Gov. Tim Kaine for the 2012 Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate.

Scott made the announcement at a Labor Day Picnic, according to news reports. He also endorsed Kaine.

Republicans George Allen and Jamie Radtke are among those seeking the Republican nomination to replace retiring Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va.

“Though I believe I can win the Democratic nomination and the general election, a winning campaign would require me to devote all of my time for the next 14 months to that campaign,” Scott said in a statement Monday.

Scott had said in March that he was considering running for the seat.
