The reason President Joe Biden’s decision to implement a new eviction moratorium in direct defiance of the Supreme Court is so alarming is because this lawlessness will not stop here.
If he can get away with this, who’s to say he won’t also try to force through some of his other more aggressive policies in this manner? Especially when that’s exactly what the leftists influencing his agenda want him to do?
Indeed, a number of congressional Democrats are already calling on Biden to use his executive authority to extend the pause on federal student loan payments. The Washington Post reported that they’re feeling
“emboldened by their success in pressuring the Biden administration to approve [the] new eviction moratorium.”

Fearing some people with student loan debt still may be in dire financial straits, many liberal-leaning lawmakers in the House and Senate are urging President Biden to continue the deferral period. They point to the arrival of the new, highly transmissible delta variant of the coronavirus, as they make the case for additional protections into next year. Some of these Democrats are also calling for longer-term measures, including the full cancellation of their remaining debts.To be fair, Biden has heretofore resisted progressive efforts to get him to forgive student loan debt unilaterally. But Biden was also the guy who claimed he was going to bring back democratic norms to the White House — only to turn around a few months later and defy the separation of powers and the limits it imposes on his office.
Biden can’t be trusted. He wants to be the next Franklin D. Roosevelt, and he’s already proved he will act as aggressively as necessary to make that happen — norms be damned.
