Measuring what Americans think about immigration

MEASURING WHAT AMERICANS THINK ABOUT IMMIGRATION. Over the weekend, CBS News published a new poll with the headline, “Poll finds support for Trump’s deportation program falls.” The story seemed straightforward. But the story behind the story is worth looking into.

The poll found that 44% of those surveyed approved of the way President Donald Trump is handling the issue of immigration, while 56% disapprove. After that came a number of more specific questions. What do you think about “the Trump administration’s program to find and deport immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally”? Forty-nine percent approved, while 51% disapproved.
