Corporate America may finally be realizing the harm caused by
diversity, equity, and inclusion
administrators, those whose vague title allows them to hogtie business with destructive ideological restraints. But President Joe Biden is moving the federal government in the opposite direction. It’s a parallel to his increasingly slavish adherence to
labor unions’
demands at a time when most of the country, given the choice, frees itself from their sclerotic grip.
While most of America is waking up from its hazy and inattentive acceptance of DEI’s malign ministrations, Biden has signed an executive order requiring federal agencies to establish “equity leadership teams” and draft annual “action plans” to implement DEI programs in federal operations and employment. If this is not reversed quickly by the next president, it will prove not only a massive waste of
taxpayer
resources but also a persistent nuisance and spoke in the wheels of smooth governance. It lines up lawsuits from here to eternity.
The seemingly harmless example the administration gave involves making it easier for non-English speakers to report crimes. But this is not an “equity” issue but one of competence. Agencies should be able to communicate with people of all backgrounds.
DEI zealots are, ironically, making war on the Spanish language, trying to
force 500 million native Spanish speakers to degender their nouns
for the sake of “inclusion.” Will a truly diverse, equitable, and inclusive federal government listen to people who refuse to use the new “inclusive” jargon dreamed up in academia even though doing so would exclude all people who speak normal English and Spanish?
Here is a rule of thumb: Wherever “equity” and not “equality” is being discussed, you can expect deliberate racial discrimination, which is against federal law.
The federal government is forbidden from discriminating based on race. Courts have upheld this again and again. But the entire premise of DEI is that one must discriminate based on race, supposedly for the sake of fairness. In schools, corporations, and government, DEI grifters teach that white people are inherently and irredeemably racist. Their catechism is a hierarchy based on victimhood, in which each person is given a minutely calculated balance of privilege and grievance — all privilege for white men, all grievance for disabled minority women (perhaps especially of the transgender variety). This is why, despite sounding innocuous, DEI programs cannot attract the good conscience support of anyone who believes “all men are created equal.” (We use the word “men” here in its old-fashioned and proper sense, incorporating both sexes, to mean “mankind” or “humankind.”)
Federal DEI programs are much worse than just massive wastes of time and money. They are also worse than being merely illegal. They are immoral because they represent attempts to divide people by race as much as possible. The goal of DEI is to make every issue a racial problem. There is a clear reason for this. Only through resentment and hatred of others — the wealthy, the successful,
whites
,
Jews
,
Asians
, whomever — is the Democratic Party capable of winning elections. DEI is racial essentialism as racist as, if less violent than, when Democrats founded the Ku Klux Klan and lit crosses on people’s lawns.
People overwhelmingly reject racial preferences because they are rightly disgusted by the racism in their country’s past, of which they are well aware. Voters in specific states, including blue states California and Michigan, have overwhelmingly rejected racial preferences at the ballot box, even when
major politicians
have tried to get them to support such discrimination.
The only way to handle DEI is to fire everyone who spreads it. Biden may think he is doing something clever by giving jobs to enforcers of political correctness. But someone will have to clean up his mess and abolish the new brand of discrimination that he is bringing to government.
