Schools, politicians, and bureaucrats are deliberately confusing children about gender and the basics of the English language in the name of “tolerance.”

The Pennsylvania Department of Education’s “Gender/Gender Identity” section of its “Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging” page has a list of words and phrases that educators should know. The department claims that “binary gender” is “the faulty concept that there are only two genders: male and female.”

Starting from that anti-science position, the department claims that people who do not identify as the only two genders could be described as “genderqueer” and that “gender-neutral pronouns” could include “ne, ve, ze/zie and xe.” Many of these definitions come from an article claiming that children can reject the idea of being male or female as young as 3 years old and that “some kids know their gender identities and birth sexes don’t match almost as soon as they begin to talk.”

All of this is utter nonsense. You are not “assigned” a gender at birth, and “genderqueer,” much like “nonbinary,” is an utterly meaningless term that does not accurately describe anything. “Ne” and “zie” are not pronouns; they are gibberish, used by people who want to be seen as unique or different. Humoring this anti-science nonsense does not help people suffering from gender dysphoria. It only promotes the idea that the entire world should bend to their every whim.

That this is being promoted to children is unconscionable. Children do not have the capacity to decide that they are members of the opposite gender, or some third made-up gender, or no gender at all. Roughly 80% of children who claim to be transgender grow out of it by the time they are adults. Instructing teachers to encourage children suffering from gender dysphoria to embrace made-up words and anti-science thoughts, which are only being put in their heads by adults in the first place, will only harm them and worsen their condition.

Convincing concerned parents that this is the best way to accommodate their children is disgraceful, but this is what liberal politicians and bureaucrats have chosen to do. Further confusing children who are already confused about their gender will help those liberal policymakers feel good, but it will do untold damage to children. We will be reaping the consequences of gender ideology for years to come.
