Wade. Today, his promise became a reality. It’s the latest example of a Trump promise made and a Trump promise kept. Everyone who is against infanticide should be thankful for Donald Trump, regardless of one’s personal feelings about him.

(And, if we are being fair, for all the people who have lambasted him recently and called him a RINO, Sen. Mitch McConnell deserves some credit, too.)

Despite all his flaws, Trump was arguably, and surprisingly, the best president for the pro-life movement. He touted his pro-life stance during a presidential debate with Hillary Clinton, in which he promised to appoint pro-life justices. It was an important statement, especially given some of the Supreme Court appointees Republicans have had over the years. But Trump’s promise felt different. Consider his statements from 2016.

“Well, if we put another two or perhaps three justices on, that … will happen automatically, in my opinion, because I am putting pro-life justices on the court,” Trump proclaimed back then.

The promise to nominate Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe had been met with suspicion by pro-life voters. More often than not, these voters were seduced with the pledges of these nominees, only to live with the reality of their failure to overturn it. But, unlike many previous Republican presidents, Trump delivered.

Furthermore, he demonstrated his commitment to the pro-life movement during his presidency. After all, he was the first sitting president to attend and speak at the annual March for Life Rally, a list that includes those deemed morally superior, such as George W. Bush and Ronald Reagan.

“Unborn children have never had a stronger defender in the White House,” Trump said at the time. Years later, it turns out, he was right.

It’s no secret that Trump was a polarizing president, even among those in the Republican Party. However, if people are honest, despite all his shortcomings, he accomplished a great deal when it came to conservative policies, in areas that many other Republicans failed. One need not be a MAGA sycophant to realize this. As such, he should be acknowledged and celebrated for these accomplishments.

As for his flaws, I understand why many on the Right refused to support him, even if I disagreed. We want Republican presidents to be of the highest moral character and as close to beyond reproach as possible. Admittedly, Trump failed in some of these areas. However, when we had such presidents who allegedly upheld these standards, they often abandoned many of the values they promised to defend — as if they were either embarrassed or too afraid to fight for them. But that is where Trump differed. What he lacked in those other qualities, he made up for with his grit, determination, and tenacity in fighting back.

And it’s these traits that led to Roe v. Wade being overturned today. Love him or loathe him, without President Trump, today’s Supreme Court decision would not have been possible.
