Stiller, 56, met with the comedian-turned-president, praising him as a “hero,” after visiting occupied settlements in the Kyiv region on World Refugee Day, according to a statement from Zelensky’s office. The visit comes nearly four months into Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“It’s one thing to see this destruction on TV or on social networks. Another thing is to see it all with your own eyes. That’s a lot more shocking,” Stiller said.

Zelensky responded that “it is even worse” to imagine what was currently happening in the settlement “under temporary occupation in the east.”
Stiller, who was accompanied by the UNHCR representative in Ukraine, Karolina Lindholm Billing, met with the president to discuss the needs of Ukrainian citizens displaced by Russia’s invasion.

“Over the years, I’ve had the chance to meet refugees and asylum-seekers from around the world, from Syria, Central America, Afghanistan, Iraq, and now Ukraine,” Stiller said in a statement obtained by People. “Seeking safety is a right, and it needs to be upheld for every person. Protecting people forced to flee is a collective global responsibility. We have to remember this could happen to anyone, anywhere.”
