President Donald Trump approved on Tuesday the deployment of at least 1,000 soldiers from the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East, adding ground forces to a broader U.S. buildup in the region even as he says peace talks with Iran are in the works.
The troops are expected to deploy in the coming days and include a battalion from the 1st Brigade Combat Team, along with Maj. Gen. Brandon Tegteier, the division’s commander, and division staff.
