A commander in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has seemingly taken control of the country’s negotiating position and approach when it comes to possible diplomacy with the United States and Israel.

Major General Ahmad Vahidi, the commander of the Guard, presents a more hard-line stance on both negotiations and the military response than Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister Abbas Araghchi, who participated directly in last weekend’s preliminary negotiations with American officials in Islamabad, Pakistan.
