President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order on Monday afternoon to create a new commission to focus on military families.
The President’s Military Spouse Commission, as it will be named, will be chaired by Jennifer Hegseth, the wife of War Secretary Pete Hegseth. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin’s wife, Christie Mullin, and the spouses of the service secretaries, Joint Chiefs of Staff, and each branch’s senior enlisted leader will also be members of the commission. Collectively, it will advise the president on issues facing military families and provide recommendations on how to improve the quality of life.

Hegseth is expected to attend the signing ceremony, according to his daily schedule.

Military spouse employment and pay are among the biggest issues for military families. Time away from family, childcare, and housing are other important issues for active-duty military families.
This comes as there are still roughly 50,000 U.S. service members in the Middle East with no obvious end in sight to the Iran war. Trump said over the weekend that he called off a major attack at the request of U.S. allies in the region, though the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports remains in effect. The two sides have shared conflicting information in recent days about the status of their talks.
