Silver lining: Biden popularity improves, but majority still disapproves of him

President Joe Biden’s approval ratings have increased slightly in recent weeks, but the public is still largely dissatisfied with the direction of the economy and country.

As the midterm elections approach, the president’s ratings have improved by almost 10%, with 45% approving of his job performance, up from 36% in July, his lowest rating so far, according to an Associated Press/NORC poll.

Approval over the state of the economy has also improved, with 38% in favor of how Biden is handling the economy. This is up from June, when it sat at 26%.

PELOSI CONFIDENT DEMOCRATS WILL HOLD HOUSE MAJORITY

Researchers attribute the slight increase in Biden’s approval ratings to increasing support from Democrats. Currently, 78% of Democrats think Biden is doing a great job, up from 65% in July and 72% in June. Ten percent of Republicans approve of the president’s job performance, up from 5% in July.

About 49% of adults overall approve of his handling of climate change, with 78% of Democrats approving and 78% of Republicans disapproving. Regarding abortion policy, 65% of Democrats think Biden is doing a great job, compared to 16% of Republicans thinking the same thing.

Overall, only 27% of respondents believe the country is headed in the right direction, with both Democrats and Republicans sporting relatively low ratings at 44% and 9%, respectively. These are up from previous polls that had Democrats sitting at 17% and Republicans at 4%.
