President Donald Trump referred to the Republican Party as the “Party of Affordability” on Friday, a week after calling affordability a “dead” matter for Democrats.
His remarks come after Democratic candidates secured sweeping victories in the 2025 elections, which were partly due to their attacks on Trump’s claim of a “golden age” of American economic dominance.
“Cost and INFLATION, were far higher under the Sleepy Joe Biden Administration, than they are now. In fact, costs under the TRUMP ADMINISTRATION are tumbling down, helped greatly by gasoline and energy,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Friday.
“Affordability is a lie when used by the Dems,” he said. “It is a complete CON JOB. Thanksgiving costs are 25% lower this year than last, under Crooked Joe! We are the Party of Affordability!”
Trump has focused his efforts on lowering the cost of living since the elections. Last Friday, he directed the Justice Department to open a price-fixing investigation into meatpacking companies.
The next day, Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte announced that the administration is working on a 50-year plan for homeowners, which would lower monthly mortgage payments while dramatically increasing interest rates.
The day after Pulte’s announcement, Trump said on Truth Social that he is considering using the revenue from tariffs to issue $2,000 checks for Americans.
Kevin Hassett, the director of Trump’s National Economic Council, told reporters on Monday, “I think that when we studied the matter in the summer, we thought that deficit reduction might be the best use of those monies, but we’ve had a big surge in tax revenues.”
Trump also promised on Monday that he would issue a $10,000 bonus check to air traffic controllers who did not abandon their posts during the government shutdown.
On Nov. 7, the same day Trump told the DOJ to investigate meatpackers, he told reporters that the “affordability” matter raised by the Democrats was a “con job,” accusing the party of altering economic statistics ahead of the elections.
“Do you remember that the Biden administration had the highest inflation in 48 years? The reason I don’t want to talk about affordability is because everybody knows that it’s far less expensive under Trump than it was under sleepy Joe Biden,” Trump added.
TRUMP SAYS AFFORDABILITY IS A ‘DEAD’ ISSUE. HIS RECENT PROPOSALS SAY OTHERWISE
Trump called the matter of affordability a “Republican stronghold” days before, adding that Americans will have a more affordable Thanksgiving dinner than they did under former President Joe Biden.
“Walmart just announced that prices for a Thanksgiving Dinner is now down 25% since under Sleepy/Crooked Joe Biden, in 2024,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Hopefully, Republicans will use this irrefutable fact!”
