William & Mary raises $43.6M in fiscal 2012

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) — The College of William & Mary says private donors contributed $43.6 million in the 2012 fiscal year, up 6.5 percent from the previous year.

College officials said Friday that total private giving for the year that ended June 30 was $2.6 million more than in fiscal 2011. The total topped $40 million for four straight years.

Donations and pledged commitments to William & Mary totaled $80.1 million. More than 30,300 people, corporations and foundations gave to William & Mary, topping last year’s total of more than 28,600 donors.

President Taylor Reveley said in a statement that the college depends increasingly on gifts from alumni and other donors in the face of growing financial pressures on higher education institutions, particularly state schools.
