Harris Teeter gave $1.5 million to schools this year, including 10 in Maryland and Virginia, as part of the grocery chain’s Together In Education program. Arlington County Public Schools was the biggest local winner, as Barcroft Elementary racked up nearly $30,000 in rewards for buying Harris Teeter products and using its pharmacy. Arlington Science Focus School earned $8,665. Other local booms included more than $5,000 for Pinebrook Elementary and $4,675 for Ashburn Elementary, both in Loudoun County, and $4,700 for Spring Hill Elementary in McLean. This school year, more than 4,500 schools participated in the Together in Education program, which aims to financially suport schools in communities that Harris Teeter serves. – Lisa Gartner
