BALTIMORE (AP) — The president of Johns Hopkins University and the dean of the University of Maryland School of Law will help pick Baltimore’s next police chief.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake named the members of the panel on Sunday. In addition to Johns Hopkins president Ronald J. Daniels and law school dean Phoebe Haddon, the panel also includes Robert Bogomolny, the president of the University of Baltimore.
The city is looking to replace Frederick Bealefeld III, who announced his retirement last month. He leaves his post on Aug. 1 after holding the job for five years.
The mayor says she sent a letter to the panel saying her priorities for the next commissioner include cutting crime by focusing on repeat offenders and illegal guns.
