Body found in Dupont Circle alley

A body found in a Dupont Circle alley is unrelated to a shooting that occurred just blocks away later that Saturday afternoon, D.C. police say.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Department said the body was discovered in an alley near the intersection of 17th and P Streets Northwest at around 10 or 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Police currently have no suspect and have not yet determined whether the death was a suicide.

But at about 3:15 p.m., a more clear-cut crime took place. Two perpetrators armed with handguns robbed a citizen by the Safeway in the 1600 block of 17th Street Northwest. During the robbery, the victim and other bystanders began struggling with the armed men, according to police. One of the citizens was shot and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police arriving at the scene were able to apprehend one suspect and nab two handguns. But the other suspect remains at large. Police say he is a black male about 16 or 17 years old, and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt and a black Kufi hat.
