VIDEO: McCaskill says Rolling Stone rape story is ‘bad journalism’

Sens. Claire McCaskill and Kirsten Gillibrand spoke out Tuesday morning against the Rolling Stone article that details an alleged gang rape on the University of Virginia campus.

McCaskill, D-Mo., called the article “bad journalism” and said she hopes it doesn’t negatively affect other victims to report their stories. Gillibrand, D-N.Y., echoed McCaskill’s remarks but cautioned this isn’t just about the University of Virginia.

“More importantly, it has never been about this one school, and it is painfully clear that colleges across the country have a real problem in how they’re handling or not handling cases of sexual assault on their campuses,” Gillibrand said.

The two Senators appeared before a Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday morning to discuss how law enforcement can work better to assist victims of sexual assaults.
