The superintendent of Prince George’s County Public Schools has negotiated an early release from his contract after agreeing to lead the school system in Philadelphia.

Superintendent William Hite’s last day in office will be Sept. 30, Prince George’s school officials announced Friday. Hite’s contract contains a 120-day notice provision, but he agreed to forgo his severance — equal to six month’s salary, or $125,000 — in order to leave early.
