Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders
(R-AR) will sign an executive order Tuesday banning the teaching of
critical race theory
in
Arkansas
schools.
According to the
order
, “Schools must educate, not indoctrinate students.”
“Critical Race Theory (CRT) is antithetical to the traditional American values of neutrality, equality, and fairness,” it reads.

The secretary of the Department of Education is required by the order to review the department, identifying any promotion of CRT. He then must “amend, annul, or alter those rules, regulations, policies, materials, or communications to remove the prohibited indoctrination.”
Further, “The Secretary shall ensure that no school employee or student shall be required to attend training or orientations based on prohibited indoctrination or CRT.”

The order makes a point of noting that it is not prohibiting the discussion of ideas or historical topics that may relate to protected classes or civil rights.
It will go into effect immediately upon its signing on Tuesday afternoon.
