The Texas House passed a sweeping school choice bill on Wednesday that Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) celebrated as a historic achievement and pledged to sign into law swiftly.
In an 85-63 vote, legislators gave the initial green light to Senate Bill 2, a $1 billion private school voucher plan that creates “education savings accounts” for students to spend on private school tuition and other education costs. The House legislation approved $10,000 annual funding for families to allocate toward private education, while homeschoolers could access up to $2,000.
