VIDEO — Boehner: Keystone XL veto would be like calling Americans ‘stupid’

House Speaker John Boehner said Tuesday that if President Obama were to veto the Keystone XL pipeline project it would be like calling the American people “stupid.”

Boehner’s remarks came following the GOP’s leadership meeting on Capitol Hill Tuesday morning.

Last week, the Republican-controlled House voted in favor of the Keystone project that would funnel oil from Canada through the United States to the Gulf of Mexico. Later in the day Tuesday, the Senate is expected to vote on the issue.

Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., is leading the charge in the Senate to get the Keystone project passed with the 60 votes needed to override a potential veto by the president. Obama has remained coy on whether he would veto a bill that could land on his desk later this week.
