Energy Secretary Chris Wright expressed uncertainty about gas prices for the remainder of this year, signaling on Sunday that they won’t be coming down by much.
Wright was asked by CNN’s Jake Tapper when Americans will start seeing $3 a gallon gas again, as the national average currently sits above $4. The energy secretary did not give a rosy outlook.

“I don’t know,” Wright said. “That could happen later this year. That might not happen until next year. But prices have likely peaked.”
He reiterated that once the Iran war ends, gas prices will come down.
The lack of a firm timeline from Wright is in contrast with other Trump administration officials, specifically Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
Just last week, Bessent said he was “optimistic” that $3 gas would be coming back “sometime between June 20 and September 20.”
He did, however, caution that prediction was dependent on how peace talks with Iran play out.
As of Sunday, those negotiations have stalled.

While a second round was scheduled for later today, the United States angered Tehran after its forces seized an Iranian-flagged vessel violating the blockade on Iranian ports.
Iranian state media reports shortly after suggested the second round of negotiations are no longer happening.
