Chicago parks to get $2.4M in state money

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Park District will receive $2.4 million in state money to improve five parks.

The money is coming from the Illinois Jobs Now capital construction program.

Gov. Pat Quinn announced the grants Sunday. He says the money will create jobs and “ensure that Chicago’s parks continue to benefit their neighborhoods for years to come.”

Archer Park will get $375,000 to rehabilitate roofing of the field house and improve parking lots accessibility.

McKinley Park will get $544,000 to help rehabilitate its field house, including the gymnasium. Dvorak Park’s $600,000 grant will help restore its historic field and pool houses completed in 1908.

There will be $300,000 for Sherman Park for field house and lagoon-stairs repairs and Hamilton Park will get $675,000 to repair its gym, auditorium and more.
