Gas prices: Decreasing across the nation

Gas prices continued to trickle downward on Wednesday as the average cost for a gallon of regular gas stood at $3.575, according to AAA. This continues the downward trend in prices that started before Memorial Day weekend. 

Wednesday’s prices decreased from Tuesday’s averages of $3.592 per gallon and Monday’s costs of $3.593 per gallon. Gas prices are also less expensive than last week, when the average price for a gallon of regular gas in the country stood at $3.611. 

Wednesday’s prices also mark a decrease from the average gas prices around the nation this time last month, when it cost $3.659 per gallon. Gas prices are also cheaper than they were last year, when the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.582.

Some things about gas prices remained consistent, however.

California still has the highest gas prices in the country, with an average price of $5.104 per gallon. This slightly decreased from Tuesday’s price of $5.12 per gallon.

Mississippi is still the state with the cheapest gas prices in the nation, at $3.034 per gallon. This was the same price as Tuesday but slightly less expensive than last week when a gallon of regular gas in Mississippi cost $3.058.

Here are the gas prices for a gallon of regular-grade gas in and around Washington, D.C., and a few other states. 

Washington, D.C.

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in the nation’s capital continues to be more expensive than the average price in the country. On Wednesday, regular gas in Washington, D.C., cost $3.701 per gallon. This is a slight decrease from Tuesday’s price of $3.709 per gallon. A week ago, a gallon of regular gas was $3.716. 

Maryland

In Maryland, a gallon of regular-grade gas is $3.671. This is a decrease from Tuesday’s price of $3.673 per gallon. However, both prices are more expensive than the average price from a week ago, when gas was $3.639 per gallon.

Virginia

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia on Tuesday is $3.454. This is a decrease from yesterday’s average of $3.460 per gallon. Both prices were less expensive than a week ago when prices stood at $3.462 per gallon, according to AAA.

Delaware

Interestingly, while gas prices decreased throughout the Washington, D.C., area, the average price for regular-grade gas in Delaware slightly increased on Wednesday, coming in at $3.536 per gallon. On Tuesday, a gallon of regular gas in Delaware cost $3.533.Gas is also more expensive today than it was last week, when it cost $3.508 for a gallon of regular-grade gas.

Arkansas

Gas prices in Arkansas are relatively inexpensive. Only Mississippi has cheaper gas prices than Arkansas. On Wednesday, a gallon of regular-grade gas cost $3.067. This is cheaper than on Tuesday when gas was $3.073 per gallon and last week when the gas price was $3.112 per gallon.

Illinois

In Illinois, gas prices continue to be higher than the national average. On Wednesday, regular-grade gas costs $4.018 per gallon. Nevertheless, this total was a decrease compared to Tuesday, when it cost $4.044 per gallon. However, it is more expensive than it was a week ago, when prices averaged $3.936 per gallon.
