SSI payments are typically issued on the first day of each month. The program supports people with limited income who are blind, age 65 or older, or have another qualifying disability.

Payment amounts vary depending on filing status and other factors. Individual recipients can receive up to $994 per month, couples filing jointly can receive up to $1,491, and essential persons who provide care to SSI recipients can receive up to $498.
To qualify, recipients must meet income and resource limits and be U.S. citizens or certain noncitizens approved under Department of Homeland Security classifications.

Recipients also must live in one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, or the Northern Mariana Islands, and cannot be outside the United States for a full calendar month or 30 consecutive days.
