Idaho residents can expect as much as an extra $300 in their wallets this Thanksgiving as long as they filed their taxes on time, Gov. Brad Little announced recently.
The rebate checks, which were approved during the Idaho legislature’s special session on Sept. 1, are a part of an approximately $1 billion package to reduce the state’s record budget surplus, cut taxes, and increase education funding. So far, the state has issued 192,000 rebate checks totaling $133 million, Little told the Idaho Capital Sun.

“By Thanksgiving, almost everybody that didn’t file late or have a complication or get flagged should be done,” Little said. “All the direct deposits that don’t have any kind of flag on them should be done next week is my understating.”
Individual filers can expect a minimum of $300 for their rebates, while joint filers can expect a minimum of $600.
Officials with the tax commission have already begun processing the rebates, and the first rebates were issued on Sept. 26, according to the Idaho State Tax Commission. However, the commission is not able to issue the rebates all at once due to “system limitations,” said the tax commission’s Public Information Officer Renee Eymann.
“Rebates issued via direct deposit go out first as we can issue about 60,000 of them each day. The rebates we send by paper check are limited to 75,000 per week,” Eymann said.

Idaho officials have set up an online tool for state residents to track the status of their tax rebates by entering their Social Security number and driver’s license information.
