Former President Jimmy Carter has offered his services to the Trump administration ahead of a meeting with North Korea later this year.
The Democratic leader cited 20 hours of experience working with previous senior officials in North Korea.
The 93-year-old humanitarian thinks he can help the White House and State Department when they sit down to discuss North Korea’s testing of ballistic missiles in recent years.
“And I understand what they want and need,” Carter told CBS in an interview released Friday. “And just this week – I had a representative from the White House who came down and gave me the latest developments with North Korea.”
Carter said he is willing to travel overseas on behalf of the White House.
He also praised Trump for how he has responded to Korea’s agreement to meet in-person with American officials, saying he has “reacted quite well” to the news.
