Kamala Harris roasted for ‘Ukraine is a country’ explanation of Russia’s invasion

Vice President Kamala Harris got ruthlessly mocked on social media Tuesday for her simplistic explanation of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The vice president was asked during an interview on The Morning Hustle, a radio show, to talk about the situation in “layman’s terms” and how it could affect people in the United States. A clip of the start of Harris’s response, which was not the complete answer, was pushed on Twitter by the Republican National Committee, and it went viral.

“Ukraine is a country in Europe. It exists next to another country called Russia. Russia is a bigger country. Russia is a powerful country. Russia decided to invade a smaller country called Ukraine so, basically, that’s wrong,” Harris said in the clip.

A torrent of mockery ensued, particularly from conservatives and members of the media.

In her full remarks that did not make it to the viral clip, Harris went on to talk about how Russia needs to face consequences and accountability.

“And that’s why you’ll hear on the news that we talk about sanctions, which is basically having Russia pay a financial cost to the point that we can have a real impact, put a real hurt on their economy, as a consequence for their bad behavior which is resulting in the loss of innocent lives,” Harris said.
