Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, called out 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden’s skepticism of China’s power.
In a Wednesday tweet, Romney added the comment “this will not age well” to a quoted tweet from a reporter at the Des Moines Register.
The tweet from the reporter read: “Biden is skeptical of the threat of competition from China. ‘China is going to eat our lunch? Come on, man.’ ‘They’re not bad folks, folks. But guess what? They’re not competition for us.’”

This is not Romney’s first time critiquing the former vice president’s thoughts on foreign policy. As the Republican nominee for president in 2012, Romney correctly warned about the danger of Russia’s growing influence.
“Russia, this is, without question, our number-one geopolitical foe,” Romney said in March 2012. “They fight every cause for the world’s worst actors.”
Biden responded to Romney’s comments about a month later, saying that “Gov. Romney is mired in a Cold War mindset.” Biden added that then-candidate Romney had an “apparent determination to take U.S.-Russian relations back to the 1950s.”
Romney’s warning was spot on, though. In 2014, Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine, a move the U.S. condemned. In addition, special counsel Robert Mueller determined in his 448-page report that Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election was “sweeping and systematic.”
