Nicolle Wallace: Trump conviction in Senate 'hinges' on John Bolton

MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace argued that testimony from former national security adviser John Bolton could be the difference between the Senate convicting President Trump or not.

“I am reluctant to say this out loud because I don’t want to put anything in the water that could disincentivize John Bolton from testifying, if that is what he wants to do. But I believe John Bolton is the difference between conviction and no conviction in the Senate,” the host said Monday on MSNBC.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell recently said he “can’t imagine a scenario under which President Trump would be removed from office with 67 votes in the Senate.”

“It looks to me like the House is going to be on this until Christmas, then it comes over to the Senate. It displaces all other business,” McConnell said during a Monday event in Louisville, Kentucky. “I don’t know how long senators will want to continue the trial, but I’m pretty confident that in the end, impeachment will not lead to ouster.”

Wallace, 47, is a former Republican and one of the president’s most vocal critics. She worked as communications director for George W. Bush during his presidency and was a senior adviser for Sarah Palin when she was the Republican vice presidential pick in 2008.

After joining MSNBC, Wallace renounced her association with the GOP and regularly brings former Republicans onto her show to criticize the president. She said the only Republicans she respects anymore are Bush and the late John McCain.
