Families of those killed in plane that Iran shot down suing Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

Family members of those who were killed when Iran shot down a commercial airliner are suing the country’s leader and its military for the “terrorist act.”

Ali Asghar Gorji, the uncle of Puneh Gorji, said that he and some other families of those who died filed a lawsuit in Ontario, Canada. Gorji said in a Facebook post that the families, who have not been named, are looking to bring the lawsuit to the International Criminal Court.

“The main goal of this complaint is to condemn the regime to have committed this terrorist crime. Complaining in the international criminal court will also be followed,” Gorji said. “We will not let the blood of our loved ones be crushed and link it to the fall of the regime so that our hearts and all the people of Iran can rest.”

A total of 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians, 11 Ukrainians, 10 Swedes, four Afghans, three Germans, and three British nationals died when Iran’s air defense fired two Russian-made missiles and shot down the Ukrainian airliner. Although the country said at first that the crash was caused by a mechanical failure, it later admitted to shooting down the jet and killing all 176 on board.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau provided the Canadian families of those killed in the crash $25,000 to handle immediate needs.
