ABC’s The View host Meghan McCain went off on Sen. Rand Paul and President Trump over their support of pulling troops from northern Syria.
“I’m happy that there’s finally seems to be something that Republicans and Democrats are coming forward,” McCain said Thursday on the show about bipartisan outrage over Trump pulling troops out of northern Syria. “But this idea and you’re having Rand Paul on tomorrow, and I’m not going to be here tomorrow for personal reasons, but I want you to ask him. There is blood on anyone’s hands, starting with his and President Trump’s, who is letting this happen, because these people are being slaughtered after standing with our troops in the Middle East for an extremely long time fighting against terror cells.”
The host ended her comments by yelling, “Have we not learned the lessons of 9/11? And I don’t understand it.”
Earlier this week, President Trump announced that U.S. troops would be pulling out of northern Syria where U.S. Kurdish allies are stationed and Turkey has long wanted to invade.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan tweeted out Wednesday that the Turkish military would invade Syria, and eyewitnesses on the ground in Syria said Turkey had started bombing on Tuesday.
Paul said he supports Trump’s decision to pull troops from Syria and blasted congressional members who disagreed with the president.
“I, for one, appreciate the president being consistent in his policy that the goal is to irradiate ISIS and the people who have criticized him have wanted a different goal, someone who will wait until Iran’s gone, someone who will wait until Russia’s gone, someone who’ll wait until Hell freezes over,” Paul said about Trump’s decision. “I just don’t think it has to be the U.S. obligation to try to figure each of the world’s problems out.”
