Tom Coburn calls ISIS threat ‘spilled milk’

Sen. Tom Coburn said the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria is a situation the U.S. created and now it’s “time for us to clean it up.”

The Oklahoma Republican likened the Islamic State threat to “spilled milk” on “Morning Joe,” a situation the country is now past and ready to address.

By not leaving a “residual force” in Iraq, we “created the vacuum” in the Middle East, and the U.S. is now faced with dealing with it.

Coburn also expressed the concern his constituents have about the “lack of leadership in the Senate and by the president,” on foreign policy issues.

“Can you imagine telling the world we don’t have a strategy on something,” Coburn lamented. “Even if you don’t, you don’t say it.”

Congress does not need to give President Obama any additional authority to “do what he needs to do,” Coburn also said.

Obama will give a speech Wednesday night outlining his strategy for dealing with the Islamic State going forward.
