Trump: Everyone who needed a ventilator got one

President Trump claimed everyone in the United States who has needed a ventilator during the pandemic has received one, an outcome that seemed in doubt weeks ago.

“Nobody who needed a ventilator in the country didn’t get one,” Trump said at his Monday press briefing.

He also took shots at the press for not reporting on what he claimed was the success the U.S. has had with producing ventilators.

The administration scrambled to produce and source ventilators as the pandemic hit, to the extent that Trump invoked the Defense Production Act to step up production. Governors, including Democrat Andrew Cuomo of New York and Republican Larry Hogan of Maryland, had claimed that their states did not have sufficient ventilators.

He said that his administration has done “a great job” on the issue, claiming that the federal government had a stockpile of 10,000 ventilators. He also stated that the U.S. would soon be sending ventilators to countries such as Mexico and Italy.
