Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz encouraged summer fitness in a video posted Thursday on X.

Oz talked about the benefits of brisk walking, squats, and pull-ups.

“One of the best ways to taking care of your heart this summer is to get out and walk briskly,” Oz said in the video. “And I’m talking moving, not like you’re strolling to the mall.”

Oz said moving as if “you’re about to miss your flight” will help make one’s arteries more flexible and malleable.

Oz also demonstrated how to do a proper squat and said leg muscles are so powerful that by pumping blood into them, it will increase cardiac output.

“Sit back like your bottom’s about to touch the toilet seat,” Oz said as he demonstrated the exercise move.

He recommended doing about 10 squats every few minutes while walking.

Oz demonstrated pull-ups as well, using an underhand technique on a playground.

“If you don’t have it in you, just hang, it’s fine,” Oz said. “Whatever you can do to open yourself up a little bit will help.

“The key is to get out and move briskly this summer. We can do it at our fast pace, your heart will love you.”
