Golfer Dustin Johnson tests positive for COVID-19

The world’s No. 1 golfer, Dustin Johnson, has tested positive for COVID-19.

The PGA said that Johnson, winner of the 2016 U.S. Open, is experiencing symptoms from the virus. Johnson notified the PGA about the symptoms and was administered a test.

Johnson has withdrawn from the CJ Cup at Shadow Creek this weekend. He was listed by Las Vegas as the odds-on favorite to win.

Johnson said in a statement that he was “disappointed” at having to withdraw.

“I was really looking forward to competing this week, but will do everything I can to return as quickly as possible,” he said. “I have already had a few calls with the TOUR’s medical team and appreciate all the support and guidance they have given me.”

Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for Serie A club Juventus and the Portugal national team, announced earlier on Tuesday that he had also contracted COVID-19.

Nick Watney, who tested positive on June 19, was the first PGA golfer to test positive for the virus. Other notable athletes who have tested positive include world tennis No. 1 Novak Djokovic, NBA player Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets, and running back Ezekiel Elliott of the Dallas Cowboys.
