Senator Dick Durbin, D-Il., said on the Senate floor Wednesday it would be the ‘height of irresponsibility’ not to fund the Department of Homeland Security.
Homeland Security has become a political football over the past weeks after the department’s funding got caught up in a fight between congressional Republicans and President Obama’s 2014 executive action on immigration. Republicans have attempted to attach provisions to roll back Obama’s immigration actions as part of the Homeland Security bill.
Durbin’s remarks on the Senate floor Wednesday morning have been echoed by Democrats in both chambers who oppose any provisions or riders to the DHS bill.
