With the U.S. birth and death rates growing nearly even, the Census Bureau has revealed the shocking truth about who is supplying America’s new growth — legal and illegal immigrants.
An analysis of census figures found that 80%-90% of the country’s new population growth comes from immigrants.

The new numbers reviewed by the Center for Immigration Studies showed that the population of the United States last year was 333 million, up 1.2 million from 2021.
The census found that migration contributed a bit over 1 million to the U.S. population growth — or 80% of 1.2 million.
But in its review, CIS said the raw data does not account for all of the immigration trends affecting the country, from illegal crossings to exact numbers of newborns by new immigrants in the U.S.
What’s more, CIS said that counting immigration growth is not an exact science and that the census undercounts, especially as the border crisis grows.

“In our view, the bureau’s methodology for estimating net migration, which relies heavily on administrative data, is not able to fully capture a sudden and dramatic increase in illegal immigration of the kind the country began experiencing starting in 2021,” the new report read.
“The enormous scale of the border crisis and resulting illegal immigration as well as growth in the foreign-born population in the monthly Current Population Survey indicate that net migration is significantly higher than the 1.01 million estimated by the Census Bureau for 2022. If we are correct, then the U.S. population grew by significantly more than the bureau estimated and net international migration accounted for upwards of 90% of the increase in the last year,” the report read.
