On Fox News’ “Hannity” show Monday, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz unexpectedly commended Jeb Bush’s honesty in endorsing a pathway to citizenship for people in the U.S. illegally. He also criticized Sen. Marco Rubio’s flip-flop on certain immigration policies since he announced his White House bid.
“I’ll commend Jeb Bush, I think Jeb Bush has been very honest, he’s been very candid about his support for amnesty… Marco on the other hand is trying to run away from his long support of amnesty,” said Cruz, ranked first in the Washington Examiner‘s presidential power rankings, to fill-in host Mark Steyn.
Cruz added that despite Rubio and Bush having the “same record on immigration,” Rubio’s team has become increasingly nervous about it. The first-term Texas senator claimed that Rubio’s attack during last Tuesday’s Republican debate meant that team Rubio is spooked by Cruz’s surge to first place in recent Iowa polls. He claimed voters will see through any attempt to muddy the waters.
“When it comes to amnesty and illegal immigration and immigration generally, we are on opposite sides of the fence. He stands with Chuck Schumer and Barack Obama. I stand with Jeff Sessions and Steve King and the American people,” boasted Cruz.
