President Trump wasn’t in the Oval Office for a day before he started issuing executive orders, the first targeting his predecessor’s greatest achievement: Obamacare.
Now, as he revs up his campaign, Democrat Joe Biden is eyeing the hundreds of executive actions Trump has taken, starting with healthcare, abortion, and regulations.
And it has Republicans concerned that many of the achievements Trump has made will be brushed aside in a minute.
“Talking about undoing rules and regulations is a way to signal to the left-wing extreme base that they will see action on their issues,” said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform. So for Trump, he added, “It is a good idea to talk about his threatened executive orders.”
Jessica Anderson, the executive director for Heritage Action for America, said, “On day one, Biden would return to the Obama-era open-border policy, halt construction of the border wall, extend the unconstitutional DACA order, and prevent law enforcement from doing their job. He would also likely advance a radical social agenda, rolling back President Trump’s many successful actions protecting religious liberties, the conscience of Americans, and the lives of the unborn.”
Facing a politically split Congress and refusal by partisan Democrats to go along on many of his ideas, Trump has increasingly turned to executive orders and other executive actions to push his causes on everything from immigration to China to jobs.
Many of those actions, however, are subject to changes by a Biden administration because they have not been turned into law. What’s more, election experts believe that there is a good chance the Senate would turn Democratic if Biden wins the election.
Threatened by the election, Anderson urged Congress to enact Trump’s executive orders into law.
“The possibility of a candidate rolling back some of the successes of this administration shows how important it is for Congress to codify them into law. Americans deserve a secure nation that respects their rights and allows prosperity for all. If the far left has their way in 2021, we may lose that freedom,” she warned.
