Trump Not Hurting Other Republicans With Hispanics

Donald Trump’s presence in the Republican primary for president has not significantly damaged the other GOP presidential candidates with respect to Hispanic Americans. That’s according to a new poll from Gallup that finds the New York businessman with a highly negative net favorability among Hispanics, 51 points.

That’s by far the worst performance among the 17 Republican candidates. The next closest are fellow Texans Ted Cruz and Rick Perry, who each have a negative 7-point net favorability rating. Seven other candidates have negative net favorability ratings, all in the single digits, with Bobby Jindal of Louisiana split even. Six candidates—Ben Carson, Scott Walker, Carly Fiorina, George Pataki, Marco Rubio, and Jeb Bush—all have positive net favorability ratings. Bush performs the best, with an 11-point net favorability rating.

Gallup notes that only Trump and Bush are familiar to a majority of the Hispanics polled, and that Bush’s favorability among Hispanics has increased significantly between July and August.
