U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) last month detained a Jamaican woman in Florida for attempting to smuggle almost three pounds of powder cocaine in her bra.
Officials noticed “abnormalities” during a routine inspection of the woman, and later found a white, powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine. “A total of 2.7 pounds of cocaine was seized and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI),” CBP said in a statement Wednesday.
The incident took place a month earlier, on Aug. 2.
“This is another excellent example of our CBP officers’ expertise in preventing dangerous drugs from entering the United States,” said Fort Lauderdale International Airport Port Director Jorge Roig. “CBP officers demonstrate vigilance, integrity and professionalism on a daily basis.”
According to the CBP website, CBP is “the primary organization within Homeland Security tasked with an anti-terrorism mission at our nation’s ports … (CBP’s) mission also includes carrying out border-related duties, including narcotics interdiction.”
