LEWISTON, Maine — Maine Gov. Paul LePage has awarded $10,000 to a program in Lewiston designed to bolster English skills for immigrant families.
The Republican governor visited the B Street Community Center on Monday to talk to immigrants about the challenges they face and barriers they need help overcoming to secure employment.
Portland-based organization Learning Works is offering the program that LePage’s donation will support.
The Sun Journal reports that $10,000 will come out of the governor’s contingency fund.
The organization says that means the program will have $50,000, or enough to support English-language education for about 30 families and between 60 and 80 people.
