Trump campaign condemns anti-immigrant violence

Corey Lewandowski, campaign manager for Donald Trump, dismissed concerns Sunday that Trump’s harsh tone on illegal immigration was prompting violence against immigrants.

“Nobody’s condoning violence,” Lewandowski said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “Mr. Trump would never condone violence.”

A Hispanic man was beaten by men professing their support of Trump Wednesday in Boston, prompting Trump to admit his supporters are “very passionate.”

Trump later called the incident “terrible.”

“By no means would that be acceptable in any nature,” Lewandowski said.

Lewandowski doubled down on the campaign’s harsh condemnation of illegal immigration and so-called “anchor babies.”

“Coming to our country illegally is not an option anymore,” he said. “We see the severity of the crimes illegal immigrants are committing. We see that the catch and release program is a disaster.”

Trump promoted his plan to stop the flow of illegal immigration Friday in a massive Alabama rally that drew 30,000 supporters from across the southeast.
