The population of children born in the United States to immigrants — making the kids immediate U.S. citizens — has reached 16.7 million, according to the Census Bureau.
That is higher than the population of every single state except California, Texas, Florida and New York.
According to a new report from the Center for Immigration Studies, Census reports that there are 42 million immigrants. The Current Population Survey of Census counted the 16.7 million children under age 18 who, under federal law, become citizens when born into the United States even if their parents are here illegally.
Some 808,000 turn 18 every year, making them eligible to vote.
