Federal prosecutors in New York said an illegal immigrant from Mexico tried to head-butt an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer after being tasered during an arrest in New York.
Luis Estrada-Alvarez, 31, has repeatedly entered the country illegally and been deported, according to authorities. He is now facing federal charges for forcibly assaulting and resisting ICE deportation officers.
“Estrada-Alvarez caused bodily injury to two of the deportation officers,” officer Martin Shaft Jr. wrote in a complaint. “One suffered injuries to his left arm and right knee and the other suffered injuries to his right shoulder, elbow and wrist.”
ICE officers were attempting to arrest the illegal immigrant in western New York on Feb. 19 when he tried running away.
That’s when authorities used a taser on his leg, according to a complaint filed in court with the charges. During the scuffle, Estrada-Alvarez attempted to head-butt one of the officers.
He was eventually handcuffed and taken to the Buffalo Federal Detention Facility.
Estrada-Alvarez told authorities he had a history of illegally entering the country and being deported. In 2008, he was deported after being arrested in Richmond, Virginia. He managed to get back into the country but was deported twice again in 2016.
His charges could land him in prison for up to 20 years if convicted.
