Bobby Jindal unveils new immigration web ad

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is making his own play for Republican primary voters who want the GOP to get tough on illegal immigration.

Jindal, an underdog Republican presidential contender, will unveil a web advertisement on Tuesday that features remarks he made during a campaign appearance at the Iowa State Fair. The spot, part of a digital ad buy the Jindal campaign is targeting at potential Iowa caucus-goers, shows Jindal responding to liberal immigration protesters while he was speaking the Des Moines Register sponsored “soap box.”

“If you want freedom, if you love America; follow the law, learn English, adopt our values and get to work,” Jindal says in the ad, which was shared with the Washington Examiner on Monday evening.

The Jindal campaign spot was released on the heels of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump laying out a set of hardline immigration proposals, including rounding up and deport the 11-12 million illegal immigrants who currently reside in the U.S.; amending the Constitution to outlaw birthright citizenship; and significantly restricting legal immigration, among other policies the New York businessman/entertainer is advocating.

The Jindal campaign said in a press release that its candidate “has been a vocal critic of both establishment Republicans and corporate interests in Washington, who he says have betrayed conservative principles.” Jindal stands at 14th in a field of 17 GOP candidates, at 0.7 percent, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of national polls. His percent in Iowa, 1.7 percent, is slightly better than his national average.
