Badar Khan Suri, a foreign researcher at Georgetown University, agreed to a settlement with the Trump administration on Tuesday that partially resolves the monthslong deportation dispute.
Suri was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in March over his praise of Hamas and his wife’s familial connection to the Palestinian terrorist group. His release from immigration detention was then ordered by a judge in May, as the case drew national attention for its similarities to other detained international students, such as Columbia University’s Mahmoud Khalil. An appeals court later upheld the ruling in favor of Suri.
